• This watermelon variety is developed from a sister line of Crimson Sweet. All Sweet is an excellent fresh market variety. The elongated watermelon ranges from 17 to 19" long x 7" in diameter and averages 25 to 35 lbs. Tough green rind with dark-green broken stripes. Flesh is bright red with relatively few seeds. Resistant to FW, AN1 & AN3. Matures in 90 to 104 days. Average water needs. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies, and/or birds.
• All Sweet, a high quality heirloom, is descended from Crimson Sweet. Because of its many excellent qualities, this variety has been used in the breeding of many other hybrid types of watermelon.
• Sowing and planting:
• Gardeners in warm climates will be able to direct sow watermelon as soon as the soil temperature reahes at least 75 degrees F, planting six seeds per hill with 6-8in of space in all directions. Thin to the strongest two or three plants as soon as the seedlings appear. Watermelon seeds for sale shoud be planted in full sun and rich, loose soil. Young seedlings may benefit from black plactic to warm up the soil.
• As soon as the vines begin to develop, apply a thick layer of mulch to control weeds and protect the melons for soil contact. Keep the soil moist until the fruit begins to grow, then water only if the soil dries out completely. Watch out for insect pests, which can be a problem.
